    Sleep Number ComfortNext Lux Overview

The Sleep Number ComfortNext Lux is a 13-inch premium smart bed at $3,999, offering superior whole-body relief, 67% more cooling than ComfortMode, and active temperature control. Our pick for best value in the Sleep Number lineup.

    Our Verdict

The ComfortNext Lux is the sweet spot in Sleep Number's 2026 lineup — 13 inches of premium construction with superior relief for hips, shoulders, knees, and lower back. It features 67% more built-in cooling materials than the ComfortMode and superior airflow engineering. Active temperature control keeps the sleep surface comfortable throughout the night. The dual air chambers and SleepIQ integration remain, but the comfort layers surrounding them are substantially upgraded. At $3,999, it's a serious investment, but for couples who want adjustability and premium comfort, it delivers.

    Our Hands-On Experience

The ComfortNext Lux is what I'd call the 'Goldilocks' of the 2026 Sleep Number lineup. At 13 inches and $3,999, it offers 90% of what the Ultra provides at a $500 savings, and meaningfully more comfort than the base ComfortNext.

The 67% more cooling materials compared to ComfortMode is a real, measurable difference. During my testing, the Lux surface felt noticeably cooler to the touch than both ComfortMode models.

If I were buying a Sleep Number today and budget allowed, the ComfortNext Lux would be my pick. It hits the perfect balance of features, comfort, and value within the lineup.

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

The Sleep Number ComfortNext Lux's softer feel (5/10) provides excellent pressure relief for side sleepers. The comfort layers cradle shoulders and hips, preventing pressure points that cause tossing and turning. We recommend this mattress for side sleepers of all body types.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Sleep Number ComfortNext Lux's 5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9/10 for support.

    Stomach Sleepers

At 5/10 firmness, the Sleep Number ComfortNext Lux may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).

    Combination Sleepers

The Sleep Number ComfortNext Lux's air chamber hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The coil system provides bounce that makes repositioning effortless. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.

The Goldilocks of Sleep Number beds

Tested the ComfortNext and the Ultra at the store. The Lux hit the sweet spot for me — enough luxury without the $4,500 Ultra price. The cooling is incredible.

    Better than my $5,000 Tempur-Pedic

I replaced a 5-year-old Tempur-Pedic with the Lux. The ability to adjust firmness when my pain flares up is game-changing. Some nights I need 25, some nights 55.

How We Tested the Sleep Number ComfortNext Lux

Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Sleep Number Sleep Number ComfortNext Lux.

    Panel Testing

Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.

    Pressure Mapping

We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.

    Value Assessment

Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
