    Switched from a $2,000 Tempur-Pedic to a $600 Nectar - my honest take

    After 8 years on a Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt, it was time for a replacement. Instead of dropping another $2,000+, I decided to try the Nectar Premier during their Memorial Day sale ($599 queen). I have been sleeping on it for 6 weeks now and here is my brutally honest comparison. Comfort: The Tempur-Pedic was slightly better - that NASA foam really does contour differently. But the Nectar is 85% as good at 30% of the price. Cooling: Nectar is actually BETTER. My old Tempur slept hot. Support: Comparable for my 180lb frame. The Nectar has firmer edge support surprisingly. Overall I am keeping the Nectar. The value is insane.

    Did a similar switch last year - Tempur-Pedic Cloud to DreamCloud Premier. Same experience. The Tempur foam is special but not $1,400 more special. DTC brands have closed the gap significantly. The one area where Tempur still wins is durability - ask yourself how the Nectar feels in 3-4 years. My DreamCloud is starting to show some body impressions at month 14.

    Great review! I am 220 lbs and had a different experience with Nectar - not enough support for my frame. The Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt had noticeably better support for heavier sleepers. If you are under 200 lbs the Nectar is probably fine. Over that, I would spend more on WinkBeds Plus or the Helix Plus.

    The real question is whether the Nectar holds up long-term. Tempur foam is denser (5+ lb density) vs most DTC foams (3.5-4 lb). That density difference is what gives Tempur its unique feel AND its durability. I think DTC mattresses are amazing for the first 2-3 years but I have yet to see one that matches Tempur at year 5+. Still, at 30% of the price, even replacing every 5 years is cheaper!
