    Sleep Number ClimateCool Overview

The Sleep Number ClimateCool is a premium smart bed with active cooling (up to 15°F cooler per side), adjustable firmness, and an integrated base at $4,949. With 659 reviews and 4.7 stars, it's the proven choice for hot sleepers wanting the best cooling smart bed.

    Our Verdict

The ClimateCool is Sleep Number's answer to the Eight Sleep Pod — a smart bed with active temperature control that can adjust up to 15°F cooler on each side independently. It includes an integrated base, meaning the bed and frame are one unit. With 659 reviews and a 4.7-star average, it's the most proven model in Sleep Number's premium tier. The dual air chambers offer 0-100 firmness on each side, while the active cooling system responds to body temperature in real-time. At $4,949 (on sale from $5,499), it includes the integrated base — making the total cost more competitive when you factor in not needing a separate frame.

    Our Hands-On Experience

The ClimateCool is Sleep Number's first bed with active temperature control — it can adjust up to 15°F cooler on each side independently. With 659 reviews and a 4.7-star average, it's the most proven model in the premium tier.

What sets the ClimateCool apart from the ComfortNext series is the active cooling technology. Instead of just relying on foam and airflow, the bed has a built-in temperature regulation system that detects your body heat and actively cools the surface. In my testing, it worked impressively — within about 10 minutes of lying down, the surface temperature dropped noticeably.

The integrated base is included in the price, which changes the value calculation. A ComfortNext Ultra ($4,499) plus a quality adjustable base ($500-1,500) could approach or exceed the ClimateCool's $4,949 sale price. Factor that in.

The limitation is that it can only cool, not heat. If you're a cold sleeper in winter, the Climate360 is the only option that actively warms the bed.

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

The Sleep Number ClimateCool's softer feel (5/10) provides excellent pressure relief for side sleepers. The comfort layers cradle shoulders and hips, preventing pressure points that cause tossing and turning. We recommend this mattress for side sleepers of all body types.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Sleep Number ClimateCool's 5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9.3/10 for support.

    Stomach Sleepers

At 5/10 firmness, the Sleep Number ClimateCool may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).

    Combination Sleepers

The Sleep Number ClimateCool's air chamber hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The coil system provides bounce that makes repositioning effortless. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.

    No more night sweats!

I've dealt with night sweats for years. The ClimateCool has completely eliminated them. My side stays at 68°F while my husband keeps his at 72°F. Worth every penny.

    Eight Sleep SwitcherVerified Purchase

Better than Eight Sleep for us

We switched from Eight Sleep Pod 3. The Sleep Number adjustable firmness is something Eight Sleep doesn't offer. Cooling isn't quite as aggressive but the overall package is better.

    Menopause MaryVerified Purchase

    Game changer for menopause

Hot flashes were destroying my sleep. The ClimateCool detects the temperature change and responds. I went from waking up 5x a night to sleeping straight through.

How We Tested the Sleep Number ClimateCool

Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Sleep Number Sleep Number ClimateCool.

    Panel Testing

Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.

    Pressure Mapping

We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.

    Value Assessment

Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
