Video Review
Our Verdict
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance is the brand's flagship cooling mattress, featuring their proprietary ThermoCool cover and ThermoPhase change material that actively absorbs and releases heat to maintain an ideal sleep temperature. Built with HD 4.0 copper-infused memory foam over individually pocketed Ascension coils, it delivers exceptional pressure relief while sleeping noticeably cooler than competitors. This is one of the best cooling mattresses we've tested, and Brooklyn Bedding's factory-direct model keeps the price competitive for a luxury hybrid.
Our Hands-On Experience
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance arrived with a lot of hype around its cooling tech, and after 30 nights of testing, I can say it largely delivers. The ThermoCool cover feels noticeably cool to the touch — not the fake 'cool for 5 seconds' you get with some cooling covers, but a sustained temperature regulation that I could measure with our thermal imaging camera throughout the night.
Brooklyn Bedding has a unique advantage as one of the few mattress brands that owns their own factory in Phoenix, Arizona. This factory-direct model cuts out middlemen and keeps costs lower than you'd expect for a mattress with this much cooling technology. The build quality reflects that manufacturing expertise — seams are tight, materials feel premium, and the 8-inch Ascension coil unit provides excellent support with minimal noise.
The copper-infused HD 4.0 memory foam is a standout layer. Copper naturally conducts heat away from the body and has antimicrobial properties. Combined with the ThermoPhase change material (which actively absorbs excess heat), this is the most effective passive cooling system I've tested — rivaled only by the Eight Sleep Pod's active cooling, which costs 3x more.
My main criticism is the 120-night trial period. In an industry where 365-night trials are increasingly common, Brooklyn Bedding's trial feels conservative. The 10-year warranty is also shorter than competitors offering lifetime coverage. That said, the mattress itself is outstanding for hot sleepers, and the multi-firmness options mean you can dial in exactly the right feel.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 6/10 firmness, the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance's 6/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9.2/10 for support.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6/10, the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.
Combination Sleepers
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance's luxury hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The coil system provides bounce that makes repositioning effortless. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.

Finally sleeping cool!
I've tried every 'cooling' mattress on the market and the ThermoBalance is the only one that actually keeps me cool all night. The ThermoCool cover is the real deal — noticeably cooler to the touch than my old mattress.
Luxury feel without luxury price
Coming from a Tempur-Pedic, this is surprisingly comparable in quality but significantly cooler. The copper memory foam layer is incredibly supportive. Only wish the trial period was longer.
Game changer for night sweats
My wife and I both run hot. We were waking up drenched on our old mattress. The ThermoBalance has completely eliminated that problem. Worth every penny.
Great but pricey
The cooling is genuinely impressive — best I've experienced. Comfort is excellent too. My only gripe is the price; at $1,374 on sale it's not cheap. But you get what you pay for.

How We Tested the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance
Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Brooklyn Bedding Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance.
Panel Testing
Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.
Pressure Mapping
We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.
Value Assessment
Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
