Our Verdict
Bear mattresses are specifically designed to promote muscle recovery during sleep. The Elite Hybrid features Celliant cover technology that converts body heat into infrared energy, potentially aiding recovery.
Our Hands-On Experience
Bear's Celliant cover technology is the centerpiece of their recovery-focused marketing. Celliant is a responsive textile that converts body heat into infrared energy, which some studies suggest improves local blood flow and tissue oxygenation. Our athletic testers reported subjectively feeling more recovered, though quantifying this objectively proved difficult.
The copper-infused memory foam provides excellent cooling — measurably better than standard memory foam. Combined with individually wrapped coils for airflow, the Bear Elite Hybrid sleeps cooler than most hybrids in our testing lab. Active individuals who tend to sleep hot after evening workouts will appreciate this.
At 6.5/10 firmness, it provides the supportive feel that back and stomach sleepers prefer. The coil system delivers responsive bounce that makes it easy to change positions — important for combination sleepers and those who toss and turn. Edge support is solid, with minimal compression when sitting on the mattress edge.
The lifetime warranty and 120-night trial are generous for the price point. My main critique is that the 'recovery' claims, while not unfounded, are difficult to verify in practice. The Bear Elite Hybrid is an excellent hybrid mattress that happens to have Celliant technology — buy it for the mattress quality, consider the recovery benefits a bonus.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 6/10 firmness, the Bear Elite Hybrid works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Bear Elite Hybrid's 6/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9.3/10 for support.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6/10, the Bear Elite Hybrid provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.
Combination Sleepers
The Bear Elite Hybrid's hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The coil system provides bounce that makes repositioning effortless. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.

How We Tested the Bear Elite Hybrid
Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Bear Bear Elite Hybrid.
Panel Testing
Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.
Pressure Mapping
We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.
Value Assessment
Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
