    Our Verdict

The RejuvenateUltimate is the top of Purple's range and the most grid the company puts in a mattress: a 2-inch layer over a 3-inch layer, five inches of polymer lattice in total, under a DreamLayer quilted top, in a 17.5-inch profile. Purple describes the feel as weightless, and that is the right word — with that much progressive grid travel, the sensation is closer to floating on a suspended surface than lying on a mattress. We read it about a 3.5 out of 10, the softest bed in the collection, and yet the deeper grid layer still stops the hips from dropping out of alignment, which is what separates it from a plush foam flagship. It is the right mattress for a very specific buyer: a side sleeper with significant pressure-point pain who has the budget and has already ruled out foam because of heat. For everyone else, the value math is difficult. Queen list is $8,799 with a standing sale at $7,450, and the trial is still 100 nights with a 10-year warranty — terms that several mattresses at a quarter of the price beat outright.

    What We Love

    • Five inches of layered GelFlex Grid — the deepest pressure-relief system Purple builds
    • Weightless, floating feel that no foam or latex bed reproduces
    • Softest bed in the range at about 3.5/10 while still keeping the hips in alignment
    • Same open-lattice cooling despite the plushness, which soft foam beds cannot claim
    • 17.5-inch profile with a genuinely luxurious presence and reinforced perimeter
    • FSA/HSA eligible, 0% APR financing and Purple's lowest-price guarantee

    What Could Be Better

    • $7,450 on sale for a queen — the most expensive mattress we currently recommend at all
    • 10-year warranty and a 100-night trial are ordinary terms at an extraordinary price
    • Far too soft for stomach sleepers and most sleepers over about 250 lb
    • 17.5 inches requires extra-deep sheets and makes standard bed frames sit very high
    • Extremely heavy — expect to need help for delivery placement and rotation
    • Diminishing returns: the RejuvenatePremier is close for over a thousand dollars less

    Best For

    • Side sleepers with severe shoulder or hip pressure pain and a luxury budget
    • Hot sleepers who want maximum plushness without heat retention
    • Buyers who have tried the grid and want the deepest possible version of it
    • People who have ruled out memory foam flagships specifically because of temperature
    • Adjustable-base owners who want a flagship that flexes without damage

    Not Ideal For

    • Stomach sleepers or anyone needing a firm platform
    • Sleepers over about 250 lb
    • Anyone weighing value per dollar in the decision
    • Rooms with low ceilings, tall frames, or standard-depth sheets

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

The Purple RejuvenateUltimate's softer feel (3.5/10) provides excellent pressure relief for side sleepers. The comfort layers cradle shoulders and hips, preventing pressure points that cause tossing and turning. We recommend this mattress for side sleepers of all body types.

    Back Sleepers

The Purple RejuvenateUltimate may be too soft for back sleepers, particularly those over 180 lbs. Excessive hip sinkage can cause spinal misalignment and morning back pain. Lighter back sleepers (under 150 lbs) may still find adequate support.

    Stomach Sleepers

At 3.5/10 firmness, the Purple RejuvenateUltimate may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).

    Combination Sleepers

The Purple RejuvenateUltimate's hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The coil system provides bounce that makes repositioning effortless. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.

Which Purple RejuvenateUltimate Model Should You Buy?

Purple's Rejuvenate collection is the luxury tier above the Restore line. Every model shares the same DreamLayer quilted top, zoned pocketed coil core, 100-night trial and 10-year warranty — the only variables that change the sleeping experience are how much GelFlex Grid sits under the quilt and how it is layered.

Why the GelFlex Grid behaves differently from foam

Foam compresses proportionally — press twice as hard and it sinks roughly twice as far, everywhere. The GelFlex Grid does not. It is a hyper-elastic polymer moulded into column walls, and those walls hold their shape under broadly distributed load but buckle sideways the moment pressure at one point crosses a threshold.

In practice your lower back, a wide contact area, is held up firmly, while your shoulder and hip, which concentrate load into small areas, sink through as though the material were far softer. No foam or latex bed reproduces that split, and it is the entire reason to consider a Purple.

The same structure explains the temperature. The lattice is open in both directions, air moves through it freely, and nothing solid seals against your skin. In our thermal testing it is the coolest sleep surface of any construction, and the DreamLayer quilt on the Rejuvenate models is deliberately quilted rather than sealed so it does not undo that.

What five inches of layered grid actually feels like

The Ultimate stacks a 2-inch grid over a 3-inch grid, five inches of polymer lattice in total, under the DreamLayer quilted top. Purple calls the result weightless and that is the most accurate single word for it.

The sensation is not the slow sink of memory foam or the push-back of latex. With that much progressive travel, the surface yields wherever pressure concentrates and holds everywhere else, so the body ends up supported at dozens of independent points rather than resting on a plane. Testers consistently describe it as floating.

It still keeps the hips aligned, which is what separates it from a plush foam flagship at a similar price. The deeper grid layer is dense enough to catch the pelvis even as the top layer collapses under the shoulder. That combination — soft where you want it, supportive where you need it — is the specific thing $7,450 buys.

    The value question, answered honestly

This is the most expensive mattress we currently recommend, and the terms attached to it are ordinary: 100 nights and 10 years, where mattresses at a quarter of the price routinely offer 365 nights and lifetime coverage.

The buyer who should still purchase it is narrow but real: a side sleeper with significant shoulder, hip or joint pain who has already ruled out memory foam flagships because of heat, and for whom the budget is not the binding constraint. For that person, nothing else on the market does what this does.

Everyone else should walk down the ladder. The RejuvenatePremier is close for about $1,080 less, the RejuvenatePlus is the sweet spot of the collection, and the Purple RestorePlus delivers the core grid experience for roughly a third of the Ultimate's price.

The adjustment period is real — plan for it

Nearly every long-term Purple owner describes the same arc: strange for the first three to five nights, unremarkable by week two, preferred by week three. Purple asks you to sleep on the mattress at least 30 nights before starting a return for exactly this reason.

The 100-night trial gives room for that, but it is short next to the 365-night trials at Saatva, Nectar and Puffy — and it is unusually short for mattresses in this price bracket. Buy early in the month so the decision is not made under time pressure, and note the return date somewhere you will see it.

One practical warning specific to the Rejuvenate line: these are tall mattresses, 14.5 to 17.5 inches. Standard fitted sheets will not stay on the Premier or Ultimate, and a tall bed frame plus a 17.5-inch mattress puts the sleep surface higher than many people expect.

How We Tested the Purple RejuvenateUltimate

Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Purple Purple RejuvenateUltimate.

    Panel Testing

Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.

    Pressure Mapping

We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.

    Value Assessment

Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.

Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
