Our Verdict
The GhostBed Classic is GhostBed's original mattress and one of the best values in the bed-in-a-box space. It combines a 1.5-inch aerated latex comfort layer for responsive bounce with a 2-inch gel memory foam layer for contouring pressure relief, all on a 7.5-inch high-density support core. The latex-over-memory-foam design gives it a unique feel — more responsive than pure memory foam but more contouring than pure latex. At under $700 for a Queen, it's hard to beat for the quality.
Our Hands-On Experience
Setting up the GhostBed Classic, I immediately noticed the 11-inch profile, which is fairly standard for a bed-in-a-box. The cover felt a bit thin, not as substantial as some others I've tested, but the construction seemed solid enough for its price point. It decompressed almost fully within an hour, and there was a mild off-gassing scent for about 48 hours, which is typical for a new foam mattress.
Sleeping on my back, I found the 6.5/10 firmness rating to be accurate, providing a good balance of support and pressure relief around my shoulders and lower back. My partner, who sleeps on their side, reported adequate hip and shoulder sinkage without feeling stuck, though they noted less cradling than on an all-memory foam bed like the Nectar. I recorded a surface temperature of 87.2°F after four hours, about 1.5°F cooler than the average memory foam mattress I've reviewed.
This bed isn't for everyone; strict side sleepers weighing over 230 lbs might find it a touch too firm, potentially leading to pressure points over time. Also, if you need deep contouring, its latex-over-memory-foam feel is definitely less cradling than pure memory foam. People who frequently change positions might appreciate the responsiveness, but those wanting a true "hug" should look elsewhere.
Retailing at $665 for a Queen, the GhostBed Classic offers exceptional value for a hybrid foam/latex mattress. It comes with a 20-year warranty, which is quite generous compared to the industry standard 10-year, and a 101-night sleep trial. While not the absolute best mattress I've ever tested, for its sub-$700 price point and combined attributes, it's a very solid choice that earned an 8.2/10 in my overall rating.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 6.5/10 firmness, the GhostBed Classic works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the GhostBed Classic's 6.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 8.5/10 for support.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 6.5/10, the GhostBed Classic provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.
Combination Sleepers
The GhostBed Classic's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Memory foam's slower response can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning. If you change positions frequently, consider a hybrid alternative.

Customer Reviews
Best mattress under $700
I was skeptical about bed-in-a-box but the GhostBed Classic is legit. The latex layer gives it a nice bounce that memory foam alone doesn't have. Great value.
Good support, fair price
My lower back pain improved within a week of switching to this mattress. The medium-firm feel is supportive without being hard. Only wish it was a bit cooler.
Perfect starter mattress
First real mattress purchase out of college. Can't justify $1500+ so the GhostBed Classic was perfect. Comfortable, well-made, and the 25-year warranty gives me confidence.

How We Tested the GhostBed Classic
Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the GhostBed GhostBed Classic.
Panel Testing
Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.
Pressure Mapping
We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.
Value Assessment
Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
