Cocoon Chill Overview
Cocoon by Sealy Chill brings phase-change cooling technology to a budget-friendly foam mattress. Our testing confirmed effective cooling performance under $700, making it the best affordable option for hot sleepers.
Our Verdict
Cocoon Chill is Sealy's direct-to-consumer value line, and it is the cheapest way to get real phase-change cooling. The cover is treated to feel cold to the touch on contact, and while that effect fades once you settle in, our overnight temperature logs still showed less heat buildup than comparable foam beds at this price. Underneath is a straightforward memory foam stack in a 10-inch profile, sold in soft and medium-firm versions; the medium-firm suits back sleepers and the soft suits side sleepers under 200 lbs. Motion isolation is excellent and it is quiet. Limits are the thin profile, soft edges, and less durability than Sealy's coil beds. At $619 for a queen with frequent sale pricing and a 100-night trial, it is a strong budget cooling pick.
Our Hands-On Experience
Cocoon by Sealy brings legacy mattress expertise to the bed-in-a-box format at an aggressive price point. The phase-change material cover genuinely absorbs heat — in our testing, it measured 2-3°F cooler than standard foam covers in the first 10 minutes of contact.
For the price under $700, the cooling technology is impressive. Most budget mattresses don't include any meaningful cooling features, making Cocoon an outlier in its price range. Hot sleepers who can't afford premium cooling mattresses should strongly consider this option.
The 10-inch profile is thinner than many competitors, which limits the comfort layer depth. Heavier sleepers (200+ lbs) may bottom through to the support layer. For average-weight sleepers, the cushioning is adequate.
Backed by Sealy's decades of manufacturing experience, the Cocoon Chill offers reliability that newer brands can't match. The 100-night trial and 10-year warranty are standard, and customer service benefits from Sealy's established infrastructure.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
At 5.5/10 firmness, the Cocoon Chill works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Cocoon Chill's 5.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 8.3/10 for support.
Stomach Sleepers
At 5.5/10 firmness, the Cocoon Chill may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).
Combination Sleepers
The Cocoon Chill's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Memory foam's slower response can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning. If you change positions frequently, consider a hybrid alternative.

How We Tested the Cocoon Chill
Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Cocoon by Sealy Cocoon Chill.
Panel Testing
Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.
Pressure Mapping
We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.
Value Assessment
Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
