Sealy traces back to 1881 in Sealy, Texas, and built its reputation on the Posturepedic line introduced in the 1950s, marketed around orthopedic-style back support. It is one of the most recognized mattress names in the United States.

Since the 2013 merger with Tempur-Pedic's parent, Sealy has served as the mainstream volume brand of Tempur Sealy International while Tempur-Pedic holds the premium tier and Stearns & Foster the luxury tier.

What does Posturepedic actually mean?

Posturepedic is Sealy's name for its reinforced center-third support system. The middle of the mattress uses a firmer coil or foam zone because that is where most of the body's weight concentrates. It is a real design difference, not just marketing, though every major brand now does something similar.

Is Sealy better than Serta?

Sealy hybrids generally feel firmer and hold the hips higher; Serta tends toward softer surface comfort. For back and stomach sleepers we lean Sealy, for side sleepers wanting cushioning we lean Serta. Both are best bought on promotion.
