Big Fig Mattress Overview
Big Fig is the only mattress specifically engineered for sleepers over 300 lbs. Our testing with plus-size sleepers confirmed exceptional edge support, durability, and properly calibrated firmness for heavier bodies.
Our Verdict
Big Fig is the only mattress specifically designed for heavier individuals (300+ lbs). With reinforced edges, extra-strength coils, and a ThermoGel layer, it provides the support and durability that plus-size sleepers need.
Our Hands-On Experience
Big Fig fills a crucial gap in the mattress industry. Most mattresses are designed for the 'average' sleeper weighing 130-230 lbs, leaving heavier individuals with inadequate support and accelerated wear. Big Fig engineers specifically for 300+ lb sleepers, and it shows in every design decision.
The reinforced edge support is the best I've tested across any weight class. A 280-lb tester sat directly on the edge with minimal compression, while most competitors showed 4-5 inches of collapse. The extra-strength coils and perimeter reinforcement make the entire mattress surface usable.
At 7/10 firmness, it's firmer than most — by design. Heavier bodies compress mattresses more, so what feels 'firm' for a 150-lb person might feel 'medium' for a 300-lb person. Our plus-size testers consistently described the feel as 'supportive but not hard,' which is exactly the target.
The included free foundation is a smart inclusion. Many standard foundations aren't rated for the combined weight of a heavier sleeper plus this robust mattress. Big Fig's purpose-built foundation handles up to 600+ lbs total weight. The 20-year warranty reflects the exceptional durability of this mattress.

Sleep Position Analysis
Side Sleepers
The Big Fig Mattress's firmer feel (7/10) is not ideal for most side sleepers. The limited cushioning may create pressure points at shoulders and hips. Side sleepers under 200 lbs should consider a softer mattress for proper comfort.
Back Sleepers
Back sleepers will find the Big Fig Mattress's 7/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9.6/10 for support.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers need a firmer surface to prevent hip sinkage and lower back strain. At 7/10, the Big Fig Mattress provides the flat, supportive surface stomach sleepers need. Our testers confirmed minimal hip depression during prone sleeping.
Combination Sleepers
The Big Fig Mattress's hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The coil system provides bounce that makes repositioning effortless. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.

How We Tested the Big Fig Mattress
Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Big Fig Big Fig Mattress.
Panel Testing
Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.
Pressure Mapping
We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.
Temperature Testing
Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).
Edge & Motion Isolation
We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.
Durability Simulation
Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.
Value Assessment
Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
Editorial independence: Our testing lab operates independently from our affiliate partnerships. Brands cannot pay for higher scores or influence our methodology. Read our full editorial policy and detailed testing methodology.
