Our Hands-On Experience
The Avocado Green Mattress is made in their own factory in Los Angeles, and the transparency is refreshing. During a virtual factory tour, I watched workers hand-tuft each mattress with wool — a time-intensive process that most brands have abandoned for machine quilting. The result is a denser, more durable construction with fewer weak points.
At 7/10 firmness, this is a firm mattress. Back and stomach sleepers will love the flat, supportive surface that prevents hip sinkage. However, two side sleepers on our testing team found it too firm at the shoulders. The optional pillow top ($400 extra) brings it down to about 5.5/10 firmness and makes it suitable for all positions.
The GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex has a distinctly bouncy, responsive feel. Unlike memory foam, you sleep 'on' this mattress rather than 'in' it. The natural latex also has inherent antimicrobial properties and excellent airflow — I measured surface temperatures comparable to hybrid mattresses with active cooling.
