    Our Verdict

The RestorePlus takes the Restore's formula and changes the two things that actually matter: the GelFlex Grid goes from 2 inches to 3, and the coil unit underneath becomes three-zone rather than uniform. Both changes point the same direction — more accommodation for the shoulders and hips, more reinforcement through the lumbar third. The practical result is that the RestorePlus reads about a 5 out of 10 where the Restore reads a 6, and it holds that feel for heavier bodies instead of letting them push through to the coils. If you sleep on your side, if you weigh over about 230 lb, or if you tried a Purple in a showroom and thought it was close but slightly too firm, this is the model to buy. It lands at $2,940 on the standing sale against a $3,599 list, which is $800 over the Restore, and that is real money for a change that a lighter back sleeper genuinely will not notice. Everything else carries over: the same open-lattice cooling that no foam bed can match, the same responsive feel, the same 100-night trial and 10-year warranty, and the same week or two of adjustment before the grid stops feeling strange.

    Lab measurements: in the queue

The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid has been slept on and scored by our testers, but it has not yet gone through the full instrumented protocol — pressure mapping, thermal imaging, motion transfer and edge-deflection loading. Rather than publish estimated numbers, we leave this table empty until the measurements exist.

    What We Love

    • 3 inches of GelFlex Grid — enough depth that heavier sleepers and side sleepers do not bottom out
    • 3-zone coil unit adds real lumbar reinforcement and shoulder accommodation over the standard Restore
    • Same open-lattice cooling as the rest of the range: no foam contacts the body
    • Deeper grid measurably improves shoulder and hip pressure relief for side sleepers
    • 13-inch profile and stronger perimeter give it better edge support than the Restore
    • The grid does not develop body impressions the way foam comfort layers do

    What Could Be Better

    • $800 more than the Restore for a difference lighter back sleepers will not feel
    • The grid feel remains polarising and needs an adjustment period
    • Motion isolation is still only average
    • 100-night trial is short for a $2,940 mattress
    • In-home setup and old mattress removal are paid add-ons
    • 13 inches plus a foundation may need deep-pocket sheets and a lower bed frame

    Best For

    • Side sleepers who want Purple's cooling with enough sink for the shoulder
    • Sleepers over about 230 lb who would push through the standard Restore's 2-inch grid
    • Hot sleepers who also need genuine pressure relief rather than just a firm surface
    • Couples with different body weights — the zoning handles the spread better than a uniform coil unit
    • Anyone who tried a Purple and found it almost right but slightly too firm

    Not Ideal For

    • Lighter back sleepers, who will get the same result from the $2,140 Restore
    • Memory foam fans who want a slow, enveloping contour
    • Buyers who need the longest possible trial window
    • Anyone on a strict sub-$2,500 budget

    Mattress Construction

    1

    Stretch Knit Cover

Flexible cover designed not to restrict the grid's buckling action underneath

    2

    3" GelFlex Grid

A full inch deeper than the standard Restore. The extra depth is what stops heavier bodies and side-sleeping shoulders from compressing through to the support layers

    3

    Transition Comfort Layer

Foam buffer between the grid and the coil unit, tuned to the deeper grid above it

    4

    3-Zone Responsive Coils

Pocketed coil unit with softer coils at the shoulders, firmer coils through the lumbar third, and medium coils at the legs

    5

    Base Foam Layer

High-density foundation layer stabilising the coil unit and setting the 13-inch profile

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid's softer feel (5/10) provides excellent pressure relief for side sleepers. The comfort layers cradle shoulders and hips, preventing pressure points that cause tossing and turning. We recommend this mattress for side sleepers of all body types.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid's 5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 9/10 for support.

    Stomach Sleepers

At 5/10 firmness, the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).

    Combination Sleepers

The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid's hybrid construction provides responsive support that adapts as you change positions throughout the night. The coil system provides bounce that makes repositioning effortless. Combination sleepers rated this highly in our testing.

Which Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Model Should You Buy?

The RestorePlus is the middle-upper rung of Purple's Restore collection. The table below shows what changes as you move up the line — in every case the variable that matters is GelFlex Grid depth, followed by coil zoning.

What the third inch of grid actually does

Grid depth determines how much load the grid can absorb before you reach the layers underneath. With 2 inches, a side sleeper's shoulder — which concentrates a large share of body weight into a small contact patch — often compresses all the way through, at which point you are effectively sleeping on the transition foam and coils and the grid's pressure relief is lost.

Three inches changes that threshold. In our testing, side sleepers up to roughly 250 lb stay within the grid on the RestorePlus, which is why shoulder and hip pressure readings drop noticeably against the standard Restore.

The same logic applies to body weight independent of sleeping position. Above about 230 lb, even back sleepers start reaching the bottom of a 2-inch grid at the hips. That is the point where the RestorePlus stops being an upgrade and becomes the correct starting model.

Three-zone coils and why they pair with the deeper grid

A uniform coil unit pushes back the same everywhere. Under a deep grid that is a mismatch: the grid lets the shoulder sink, then the coils underneath resist it uniformly, which partially undoes the accommodation.

The RestorePlus uses softer coils at the shoulders, firmer coils through the lumbar third, and medium coils under the legs, so the support layer reinforces what the grid is already doing rather than fighting it. The lumbar zone is the part most sleepers feel — it is what keeps the hips from dropping on a bed this soft at the surface.

The zoning also helps couples with a significant weight difference, because each side's load is met by the coil stiffness appropriate to where it lands rather than by a single average.

    Living with a 13-inch mattress

The RestorePlus is 13 inches tall before you add a foundation. Standard fitted sheets, which are typically cut for 12 to 14 inches including some tolerance, will be tight — buy deep-pocket sheets rated to 15 inches or more.

The height also raises the overall bed. On a tall platform or a foundation-plus-frame setup, the sleep surface can end up above 30 inches, which is awkward for shorter sleepers and for anyone with mobility limitations. Measure before you order.

A queen is heavy and awkward to move alone. Purple's in-home setup add-on is worth considering if you do not have a second person, and old mattress removal is available at the same time.

The extra inch of grid was the whole difference

Tried the Restore in a showroom and my shoulder never quite relaxed. The RestorePlus solved it immediately. Side sleeper, 165 lb. Worth the upgrade for me specifically.

At 265 lb this is the entry point

Do not buy the base Restore if you are heavy. The 3-inch grid holds me where the 2-inch did not. Zoning through the middle keeps my hips from dropping.

Fantastic, but do the math on the trial

Love the bed. My only gripe is 100 nights on a $3,000 mattress when Saatva gives you a year. Decide fast if the grid is not for you.

How We Tested the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid

Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Purple Purple RestorePlus Hybrid.

    Panel Testing

Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.

    Pressure Mapping

We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.

    Value Assessment

Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
