    Leesa Chill Mattress Overview

The Leesa Chill is an all-foam mattress engineered for cooling, featuring a phase-change material cover and gel-infused foam layers. It offers a medium-soft feel with good pressure relief, particularly for side and back sleepers. This model provides an accessible entry point for those seeking enhanced temperature regulation in a foam bed.

    Our Verdict

The Leesa Chill brings ActiveCool™ technology to an affordable foam mattress. The cover uses phase-change material that absorbs and dissipates body heat, while the foam layers are infused with cooling gel. It's one of the best-cooling all-foam mattresses at this price point.

    Our Hands-On Experience

Right out of the box, the Leesa Chill decompressed almost fully within 2 hours, which was quicker than the 4-6 hours I typically see with foam mattresses. The cover felt cool to the touch, noticeably so compared to a standard knit cover, and the mattress itself was quite lightweight for a Queen, clocking in around 75 pounds. There was a faint off-gassing scent for about 24 hours until it dissipated completely, which is fairly standard for a new foam bed.

Sleeping on my side and back, I found the 5.5/10 firmness rating to be pretty accurate. My 160-pound frame experienced good pressure relief at the shoulders and hips, with about 1.5 inches of sinkage in those areas. My partner, who tends to sleep quite warm, noted that the surface felt consistently cool, about 2.0°F cooler than our previous all-foam bed, which is a significant difference for hot sleepers.

While it excels at cooling for an all-foam option, heavier stomach sleepers (over 230 pounds) might find this mattress a bit too soft, leading to some hip dip and potential back strain. The edge support, with around 3 inches of sinkage when sitting, also means it's not ideal for those who frequently use the very edge of the bed for getting ready or for couples who really spread out.

At a price point of $949 for a Queen, the Leesa Chill offers solid value, especially considering its cooling claims hold up in testing. It comes with a 10-year warranty, which is standard for the industry, and a 100-night sleep trial, allowing ample time to assess if it's the right fit. For budget-conscious sleepers prioritizing cooling in an all-foam design, it's a strong contender worth considering.

    Sleep Position Analysis

    Side Sleepers

At 5.5/10 firmness, the Leesa Chill Mattress works well for average-weight side sleepers (130-230 lbs). Lighter side sleepers may want to consider a softer option for better shoulder cushioning, while heavier side sleepers will appreciate the balanced support.

    Back Sleepers

Back sleepers will find the Leesa Chill Mattress's 5.5/10 firmness ideal for maintaining proper spinal alignment. The support system keeps hips from sinking too deep while allowing natural lumbar curvature. Our back-sleeping testers rated this 8.3/10 for support.

    Stomach Sleepers

At 5.5/10 firmness, the Leesa Chill Mattress may be too soft for stomach sleepers. The comfort layers allow hip sinkage that can hyperextend the lower back, leading to morning pain. Stomach sleepers should consider a firmer option (7+ on our scale).

    Combination Sleepers

The Leesa Chill Mattress's memory foam construction contours to each sleep position but may resist quick position changes. Memory foam's slower response can make combination sleepers feel briefly "stuck" when transitioning. If you change positions frequently, consider a hybrid alternative.

    Finally sleeping cool

I've tried 3 'cooling' mattresses before. This one actually works. The cover feels noticeably cool when you lie down.

    Good but edge support lacking

Comfortable and cool but I tend to sit on the edge of the bed and it compresses a lot. For actual sleeping though, it's great.

How We Tested the Leesa Chill Mattress

Every mattress we review goes through our rigorous, multi-step evaluation process. Here's exactly how we arrived at our scores for the Leesa Leesa Chill Mattress.

    Panel Testing

Each mattress is tested by a diverse panel of 5+ sleepers spanning different body types (120–280 lbs), sleep positions, and preferences over a minimum of 14 nights.

    Pressure Mapping

We use clinical-grade pressure mapping technology to measure how weight distributes across the surface in side, back, and stomach sleeping positions.

    Temperature Testing

Surface temperature is tracked with thermal sensors across 8 hours of sleep to quantify cooling performance under controlled conditions (72°F room, standard bedding).

    Edge & Motion Isolation

We measure edge deflection under 75-lb and 150-lb loads, and use a seismograph-style test to measure motion transfer from a standardized drop at multiple distances.

    Durability Simulation

Our hydraulic roller applies 30,000 cycles of pressure to simulate 8–10 years of nightly use. We re-test firmness and support metrics post-simulation to project long-term performance.

    Value Assessment

Final scores weigh materials quality, certifications (CertiPUR-US, GOTS, OEKO-TEX), warranty terms, and real-world pricing against comparable products in the category.
