Airweave Advanced Mattress

Airfiber is polyethylene extruded into fine filaments and spun into an open, tangled lattice that is roughly 90 percent air by volume. It is closer in structure to a scouring pad than to foam. Airweave assembles it into modular blocks that sit inside the mattress cover, under two thin polyester comfort layers.

That structure explains every characteristic of the bed. Air passes through it with almost no resistance, so it runs the coolest of anything we have measured. The filament lattice pushes back immediately rather than compressing slowly, so it reads at a 9 out of 10 firmness with essentially no contouring. And because polyethylene is hydrophobic and the blocks are open, you can rinse the core with water and air-dry it.

Some sleepers notice a faint rustle from the filament structure when they move during the first week. It fades from awareness quickly for most people, but it is a real characteristic of the material.

No other mattress at any price lets you wash the part you actually sleep on. The cover zips off and machine washes, and the Airfiber blocks themselves can be rinsed in a shower or tub with water and left to air dry.

For most buyers that is a curiosity. For severe dust mite allergy sufferers, for households managing incontinence, and for anyone with a chemical sensitivity that makes deep-cleaning a mattress necessary rather than optional, it is the reason to buy this bed and nothing else. Dust mites cannot colonise a core with no organic material and no moisture retention, and if anything does get in, you rinse it out.

Airweave's Airfiber research has appeared in peer-reviewed medical literature, which is rare for a mattress brand and unusual enough to note. The material is also 100 percent recyclable polyethylene with no foam, latex, or fiberglass anywhere in the build.

At 9 out of 10 this is the firmest mattress in our review set. Airweave supplies Olympic villages and the brand's testimonials skew heavily toward athletes, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers, and that reflects reality rather than marketing. If you sleep on your side, particularly under about 170 lb, the Advanced without a topper will put unpleasant pressure on your shoulder and hip.

Firmness is adjustable, which softens the objection somewhat. The Airfiber blocks can be flipped and rotated individually, so you can set a softer configuration under the shoulders and a firmer one under the hips. Airweave's MattressFit tool takes two phone photos of your body and recommends a block layout. The Luxe (+$345) and Pillow Top (+$645) layers add real cushioning, but even with the Pillow Top the bed stays firm by conventional standards.

The trial terms are the other reason to be careful. Sixty nights is the shortest of any premium brand we cover, a return costs a $199 transportation fee plus a 15 percent recycling fee, and only the first return is refundable in cash. Buying the Airweave topper or pillow first to see whether you like the material is a sensible $200 experiment before a $3,116 commitment.
