    Lab Verdict

Purple ran measurably cooler in our 60-minute body-heat test (2.5°F surface rise vs. 3°F on the GhostBed). Couples should note that the Purple dampened motion more aggressively (0.09g peak vs. 0.13g). Side sleepers will feel less shoulder pressure on the Purple (peak 29 mmHg vs. 33 mmHg). Perimeter compression was nearly identical — neither bed is the obvious pick on edge support alone. Responsiveness was comparable; repositioning effort should feel similar on either.

    In-Depth Analysis

Purple and GhostBed both market cooling as a primary feature, but they achieve it through very different means. Purple uses its hyper-elastic polymer grid with air channels; GhostBed uses gel memory foam and aerated latex-like foam.

Purple's cooling is objectively superior — 5-7°F cooler than GhostBed in our thermal testing. The grid's air channels create passive airflow that no foam technology can match. For extreme hot sleepers, Purple is the clear winner.

GhostBed offers respectable cooling at a significantly lower price point (~$750 vs $1,999 for comparable Purple models). The Ghost Ice Fabric cover adds surface cooling, and the gel foam dissipates heat well for an all-foam mattress.

Feel-wise, GhostBed provides a more conventional memory foam experience with a firmer profile (7/10). Purple's grid feel is unique and polarizing. GhostBed's 25-year warranty and lower price make it the practical choice for most budgets.

    Our Verdict

Purple wins decisively on cooling technology and unique feel. GhostBed delivers respectable cooling at a fraction of the price. Budget determines the winner for most buyers.
